Artist Spotlight 2023: DAMSEL

DAMSEL

Artist Spotlight

Damsel is a hard hitting, high energy, good time rock band from Vancouver BC. Formed in 2018 by guitarist/songwriter Kieran Marquis, Damsel’s sound is built on a tasty combination of catchy hooks, fist pumping riffs and memorable, well crafted guitar solos. Heavily influenced by rock acts of the 70s, 80s and 90s, a Damsel concert harkens back to the golden era of Rock ‘N’ Roll when shows were meant to be “nothin’ but a good time.” Their sound has been described as modern rock with an old-school attitude.

Welcome to our newly relaunched Artist Spotlight where we ask bands/artists 5 questions with the goal of getting to know the band/artist better, see what they’ve been up to and what lies ahead. Here are 5 questions we asked Kieran Marquis of DAMSEL:

What is the meaning behind or how did you come up with your band name?

Kieran: We all were big fans of Queen. My other brother, Alec thought "Damsel" was in a similar vein and we all went "yeah that's cool" and it just kinda stuck.

Having released 3 singles so far in 2023, are there any plans for an EP or Album release in the near future?

Kieran: We prefer releasing our tunes as singles…for now.

What has been the most memorable moment for the band on stage so far?

Kieran: The most memorable on stage moment would definitely be the first time we sold out the Fox Cabaret. What a great feeling.

With an upcoming headline show this weekend at The Fox Cabaret with Raw Nerve Endings and Dog Gone, what’s next for Damsel?

Kieran: Next is the release of two brand new singles as well as touring around the country to support the releases.

If you could be a part of your own dream festival, could be with any artist from any time period/any genre. Who would be your top 3 acts on the festival?

Kieran: AC/DC, Scorpions and Motorhead. Nuff said.

DAMSEL has an upcoming headlining show at The Fox Cabaret Saturday August 26th, 2023 with Special Guests Raw Nerve Endings and Dog Gone. You can purchase tickets here.
