Artist Spotlight: Nine Narrows

Nine Narrows: the vessel through which rock has traveled into the modern age. A band captivated by the timeless sounds of the past and driven forward by an innovative spirit. Formed in 2022, Nine Narrows has since garnered a reputation as one of Vancouver’s most electrifying live bands, with an intuition for songwriting and a musical depth that set them apart from the rest.

For those who haven’t heard you yet, how would you describe your sound? What are some of your key influences?

We’re definitely driven by melody and atmosphere. I could vaguely classify us a hard rock band, but our sound is influenced by 90's rock, indie, metal, and blues. What comes out of a writing session is typically a synthesis of our personal lives, artists we’re listening to at the time, and, honestly, each other. Our song “Ain’t My Time” is in ¾ time, has a grungy cabaret-like intro riff inspired by The Tragically Hip’s “The Luxury”, and the lyrics are kindred to the imagery you’d find in a Tom Waits song – that was a fun one to build.

You just released your new EP titled "Adjusting To, Drifting Through". Tell us a bit about the songs and how it all came together.

“Adjusting To, Drifting Through” was a very deliberate project. We focused heavily on a cohesive theme about self discovery by weaving in personal details and creating an aesthetic through cover art and music videos. Musically it’s akin to how we were feeling; reflective, mellow, nostalgic, wary, and we explored that by producing the project independently and experimenting with harmonies and different genres. It’s nice — I see this EP as a kind of journal entry we can return to, reminding us of what we were feeling at the time.

What are your goals as a band for the rest of 2026?

Now we return to the stage. Seeing us live is a pretty different experience from what you get on record; we play harder and faster, and we’re really proud of that versatility. Currently preparing for long drives in a crammed van, venturing out into parts unknown, but you can find us in the city playing its most iconic venues this summer and onward. Show up, grab a Nine Narrows t-shirt, have a good time!

If you could be a part of your own dream festival, could be with any artist from any time period/genre. Who would be your top 3 acts on the festival?
