Artist Spotlight: Good Goin
Good Goin’ is an Indie-rock band made up of friends and family that all grew up together in Surrey, BC. Inspired by 90’s grunge, 2000’s indie rock, and other influences you’ll have to listen for!
How would you describe your sound to someone who's never heard you before?
We actually struggled with this for a while. Our earlier stuff is a lot more R&B oriented than our Indie Rock/Grunge/Shoegaze influences. We are finally started to incorporate those ideas into our sound, and we're happy with where we're headed. We're feeling more comfortable as a band, and more confident - no longer too worried about the right description of our sound. We're figuring out our own!
Indie Rock with Grunge and R&B influences.
You released your latest EP "Oldest Rookie" this past June. Tell us a bit about the songs and how it all came together.
These were essentially the 'second batch' of songs we wrote after our first group of singles. We knew we wanted our influences to shine through this time.
We took a bit of time with these ideas, making sure everything felt right.
The first four songs are definitely indicative of our new sound and where we wanna head going forward.
The 5th track, Bowie - is for sure a throwback to our R&B vibes. We still like to sprinkle those moments in.
We've had these songs pretty much finished for years, but we knew the 6th and final song needed something or someone.
We're super stoked to have our pal Luvinya feature on that song, Such & Such. She's beyond talented.
If you could open for any artist, any time period whether active or not, who would it be?
There's so many bands from big to not-as-big; QOTSA, Palace, Ovlov, Daysormay, Cheap Flavor
Artist Shoutout! Who are you currently listening to?
Brad - I try not to listen to much new stuff when I'm in writing mode. Aside from Angine de Poitrine, I've been loving local YVR band Deaf Dogs. Saw a bit of them at Khatsalano, they're sick.
Marc - The album Slowly It Dawns by Victoria Canal. Smoke a jay, turn the lights down low, listen and thank me later.
Kyle - I’ve been listening to a lot of Hers and Queens of the Stone Age lately. I also seem to be coming back to Hall and Oates if I get the chance to sit down and listen to music.
Paul - I seem to listen to a group of songs non stop for a period of time. I get to know them really well this way but inevitably they start to feel overplayed and get replaced. Months or years down the road when I listen to a song again it reminds me of that time of my life; what I was doing, how I was feeling. Some make me nostalgic for the happiness I was feeling, some make me laugh about how tough that time felt, some I’d rather not revisit the feeling. This group of songs will be looked back on fondly for sure. It’s been a great summer so far.
