Artist Spotlight: Canyon Riders
A hard hitting rock band from Vancouver, BC Canada. These gentlemen provide a sound that brings the rich traditions of country, blues and rock and roll music together in sonic harmony, giving a new take to a familiar sound. Bound by a tight, heart pounding rhythm section, the Canyon Riders often showcase duelling guitar improvisation, reminiscent of southern rock. All highlighted with gritty and passionate vocals influenced by classic blues singers and honky tonkers.
For those who haven’t heard you yet, how would you describe your sound? What are some of your key influences?
I’d say in its essence blues rock, but there’s definitely some country in there. The country rock origins shine through in a lot of our newer songs.
We always like to say we play Rock, blues, country and everything in between.
You released your debut self titled album in 2024, which is available to listen to on all streaming platforms. Which song is your personal favourite on the album, and which song to play live?
Definitely Cigarettes and sunglasses, a very blues oriented tune that always gets the crowd going. We usually play it near the end of the set so we can leave it all on floor. Boozer is a close second and I personally love playing One good Reason as it’s pretty open ended on the solos so me and Lenny can let loose.
Any new EP or Album release on the horizon? What can you tell us about it?
Yes we’re actually recording our second album right now. We’re pretty stoked on it and are having a lot of fun recording. If you’ve been to any of our shows in the last year you’ve definitely heard the majority of the album live. So we’re pretty excited to get it all out there.
If you could be a part of your own dream festival, could be with any artist from any time period/genre. Who would be your top 3 acts on the festival?
I’d have to choose Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers and Marshall Tucker Band.
